If the numbers outline the truth, the growth of Android is likely to be even larger than what's been expected in the past. According to research group Gartner, Android is on course to become the 2nd most used mobile operating system in the USA before the end of 2010, with the possibility of surpassing the Symbian operating system as soon as 2014.
It shouldn't be a surprise given the numbers published in the past few months concerning the fast growth of the Android platform. However, this isn't the battle of Android versus iOS. This comparison simply isn't fair, considering Android's availability across a number of devices and carriers.
Take this with a pinch of salt, however. Currently Symbian still towers over Android in the worldwide makret. The Symbian OS's market share appears to be on a downturn though, and this paves the way for Android to overcome.
