Location: Northern
Ireland Science Park
Presentation by Dr. Maik A.
Lindner, Researcher at SAP
Research, Belfast
There is no charge to attend this
event which has
kindly been sponsored by Invest NI
Maik's presenation will cover the
technical, but also the business aspects of Cloud Computing and its
impact on Green IT. Starting with an introduction to the topic, Maik
will talk about the opportunities and
risks, which go along with Cloud and Green IT strategies.
Join us for
breakfast and benefit from SAP Research's experience and research in
the field of future
ICT systems and architectures as this is expected to be a centrally
important topic in
the next generation enterprise software and hardware landscapes.
Dr. Mail A. Lindner Profile
Dr. Maik A. Lindner is a member of the
Software
Engineering and Architectures (SEA) group of
SAP Research CEC Belfast
(UK).
He holds a PhD from
University of
Muenster (Germany), in Information and Controlling Systems with a focus
on Business
Intelligence, investigating controlling and regulating partnerships in
economic
environments. Prior to his PhD he finished his MSc in Information
Systems.
Currently Maik is working on the
European Union
FP7 funded project
RESERVOIR. The
aim of this project is to allow massive scale deployment and management
of complex IT
services across different administrative domains, IT platforms and
geographies (nowadays
under the Cloud Computing umbrella). The core of Maik's research are
business aspects and
business/markets models for emerging technologies such as cloud
computing and Green IT.
Cloud
computing is currently
the new buzzword in the ICT industry. It is
associated with a new paradigm for the provision of computing
infrastructure. This
paradigm shifts the location of this infrastructure to the network to
reduce the costs
associated with the management of hardware and software resources.
The variety of technologies in the
Cloud makes the
overall picture confusing due to the blurred boundaries among them and
the upcoming Cloud
paradigm. Moreover, the hype around Cloud Computing further hardens the
analysis of the
distinguishing features of this technology. Nevertheless early adopters
in the market
have already established quite stable and reliable offers of
cloud-based
services.
Green
IT involves the optimal use of
information and communication
technology (ICT) for managing the environmental sustainability of
enterprise operations
and the supply chain, as well as that of its products, services and
resources throughout
their life cycles. This definition addresses the environmental issues
associated with IT
infrastructure itself, as well as with the applications of IT.
Environmental concerns -
and, most directly, climate change - will have a substantial impact on
the IT industry's
products and services, as well as the choices that IT organizations
will
make.
